(Greenfield, MA) Update: Virginia Desorgher has won the race for mayor in Greenfield with 73% of the vote, against the incumbent Mayor Roxann Wedegartner. The defining issues of Desorgher’s campaign were restoring funding to the school district and addressing racism and mismanagement of the police department. Desorgher and her campaign team conducted an extensive door-knocking campaign, which supporters said helped her connect with voters frustrated with the current mayor.
Other victors in last night’s election in Greenfield were Wahab Minhas and John Garrett for the at-large city council seats. For school committee, incumbent chair Amy Proietti, Stacey Sexton and Ann Childs were victorious. A retired General Motors engineer, and relative newcomer to Greenfield, Chuck Green won a seat on the Board of Assessors.
