(Greenfield, MA) Update 3: Authorities have identified the three individuals who died in the small plane crash in Greenfield Sunday. William Hampton, 68 of Indian Orchard, Massachusetts; Chad Davidson, 29 of Woodstock, Connecticut; and Fredika Ballard, 53 of Southwick, Massachusetts were the three occupants of the Beechcraft 55 Baron Twin-Piston plane from the Fly Lugu Flight School. According to the state police, Ballard was the owner of the flight school, while Davidson was a student and Hampton an instructor.
An update has been provided by Dave Procopio, Media Communications Director of the Massachusetts State Police:
At approximately 11:45 AM local fire and police departments, Massachusetts State Police, and Massachusetts Environmental Police were notified of a small plane crash reported to have occurred in the area of Country Club Road in Greenfield.
A short time later responders reached the crash site, which was in the Leyden Wildlife Area.
Initial investigation reveals that all three people aboard the aircraft suffered fatal injuries
State Police detectives and Prime Scene Services crime scene personnel are processing and documenting the scene. The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to have investigators on-scene by tomorrow. The Federal Aviation Administration and Massachusetts Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division have been notified of the crash as well.
The investigation is ongoing.
Update: Greenfield Police have confirmed the fatal twin engine plane crash in the area of Oak Hill Acres Road. They have reported that there were no survivors of the crash and rescue crews and investigators are currently on scene.
Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have confirmed reports of a small plane crashing into Greenfield Sunday morning. A drone from the Greenfield Emergency Department’s drone team was used to locate the wreckage in a wooded area along with the occupants of the plane. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
