(Montague, MA) In Monday’s Montague Selectboard meeting, Police Chief Christopher Williams and Lieutenant Christopher Bonnett shared developments in the Franklin County Regional Special Response Team to unify oversight and command of the team that has been operating for over ten years, working with the Greenfield Police and Sheriff’s Deprtment to handle situations that exceed the capacity of any one agency.
Recently, the Franklin County Regional Special Response Team worked together on a case involving robberies at the Montague Nouria Gas Station where they were able to write and execute a search warrant, resulting in the aphrension of a suspect and eventual arrest. Although according to Lieutenant Bonnett, this is a small portion of what the team works on. Their jobs range from search and rescue missions, missing persons cases, and other broad scale operations.
The Selectboard voted to approve the execution of the Memorandum of Agreement that will form the oversight committee made up of the agency heads, including the Montague Police Department, Greenfield Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department. While Lieutenant Bonnett said the members work well together on cases, the new oversight committee will work together at the top forming decisions involving training, equipment, procedures, and more.
