WENDELL, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The No Assault & Batteries group that has opposed the New Leaf Energy lithium-ion battery storage project in Wendell has proposed a bylaw including licensing requirements and safety regulations. A licensing board would be formed to review applications for battery storage project, requiring applicants to provide proof of at least $100 million in liability insurance. The proposed bylaw addresses some of the safety and environmental concerns No Assault & Batteries members have when it comes to large scale battery storage projects like New Leaf’s. The licensing board would be comprised of a member of the Conservation Commission, Board of Health, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Energy Committee, Municipal Light Board and Finance Committee.
