GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — At Wednesday’s Greenfield City Council meeting, Fire Chief Robert Strahan shared that the fire department anticipates moving into the new station in mid-May. After several delays on equipment delivery due to supply chain issues, the new station is nearly complete with the main switch having been delivered this week. According to Strahan, the move into the new station will take approximately two to four weeks, allowing the temporary fire station to be relinquished by the department by July.
The new station on Main Street is expecting a temporary back-up generator to be provided by the electric company as they await their own back-up generator and the station is expecting their chiller, essentially a heat pump, to be delivered in two to three months, which won’t be needed until heating season next fall/winter. An electric sign is going through the process of permitting with the Planning Board, to display urgent, seasonal and other messages in front of the fire station.
A motion on a zoning amendment related to sign regulations was sent back to subcommittee by the council Wednesday after councilors realized there was more to be discussed in light of the chief’s updates.
