LEVERETT, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — UPDATE: As of 1:40 p.m. Shutesbury Road in Leverett is closed from Cushman Road to Number Six Road, all other Leverett roads which were closed have been reopened. Shutesbury Road is expected to be closed for an extended period today as repairs are made after severe damage was caused by a downed tree on power lines.

Thursday morning Leverett Police reported multiple road closures in town. North Leverett Road is closed for several hours with wires and a tree down. Jackson Hill Road is also closed with wires and a tree down.

Multiple reports of vehicle accidents came in last night as the storm weather began to roll into the region making for slippery road conditions. A vehicle reportedly struck a utility pole on Long Plain Road in Deerfield, while reports of another vehicle having rolled over on Haydenville Road in Whately came in. 

Athol Police report that a large part of the town is without power as of 8:00 a.m. There are reports of multiple trees and power lines down across town. Police are reminding motorists not to try to move downed limbs or power lines, but instead to alert police and then seek an alternate route.

Bachelder Road in Athol has no through traffic, as a tree came down near 228 Bachelder. The road can be accessed from either end.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) said that as of 8:35 Thursday morning, there were approximately 25,000 customers without power across the Commonwealth.
