BUCKLAND, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Buckland Board of Health is holding two public hearings on regulation updates. One is to consider modifications on local septic regulations and the second is to consider modifications to tobacco regulations. The hearings are both scheduled for next week, on May 15th.
The modifications to septic regulations aim to protect both citizens and the environment by filling out details in the existing Title 5 regulations. The proposed regulations would require effluent filters on new septic systems, “speed levelers,” inspection ports, among other features and lays out guidelines for enforcing the regulations.
Proposed modifications to existing tobacco regulations would enable the Board of Health to levy fines on establishments violating the regulations at fines of $1,000 for the first violation, $2,000 for the second, and $5,000 for the third with the ability to revoke the Tobacco Sales Permit after a hearing if four or more violations occur.
