GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Greenfield’s annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony will be taking place at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27th starting at Greenfield Middle School and ending at the Veterans Mall on Main Street. This year’s ceremony will feature Jeffrey Cochran, the Veterans’ Service Officer for the Upper Pioneer Valley District. A proclamation will also be presented by Mayor Virginia “Ginny” Desorgher to commemorate Memorial Day.

Veterans’ Services Honors Memorial Day with Parade and Ceremony
GREENFIELD – The Upper Pioneer Valley Veterans’ Services District will recognize Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, at 10 AM with a parade and ceremony.
Memorial Day pays tribute to the men and women of the military who lost their lives in service. We as a nation collectively honor and reflect upon the sacrifice of those individuals and their families across American history.
“Memorial Day is a day of mourning and reflection for us all,” said Upper Pioneer Valley District Veterans’ Services Director Christopher Demars. “We invite everyone in the community to join us as we recognize the individuals who lost their lives in service and their families.”
The city’s Memorial Day ceremony begins with the parade. The route starts at Greenfield Middle School and follows this route:
· Travels Down Federal Street. The route stops at the Federal Street Cemetery for the presentation of a remembrance wreath.
· Left onto Maple Street
· Right onto Franklin Street
· Right onto Main Street. The route stops at the Leavitt-Hovey House Mexican-American War statue and then left to the Greenfield Common for remembrance wreath presentations.
· Concludes at Veterans Mall for a short ceremony.
This year’s ceremony features Jeffrey Cochran as the guest speaker. Cochran is the Veterans’ Service Officer for the Upper Pioneer Valley District. A proclamation will also be presented by Mayor Virginia “Ginny” Desorgher to commemorate Memorial Day.
