ORANGE, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The town of Orange will now be billing the Mission Covenant Church approximately $13,700 for unpaid taxes in the past fiscal year after determining the church is only exempt from 75% of its property taxes.
A letter was sent to the town from the Americans United for Separation of Church and State in March after a resident reported the church building is rented from the town and the town assessors since determined the church cannot claim full tax exemption, however taxes can only be collected for the previous fiscal year.
