GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — On Wednesday, the Greenfield Agricultural Commission met with Health Director Michael Theroux to discuss the local and state agricultural and livestock regulations as Theroux and Health Inspector Nicole Ducharme have completed inspections of the city’s barns.
Through the discussion, it became clear that the city and state regulations are often misunderstood by residents and limited staffing is restricting the enforcement process. Such as the regulation allowing up to ten chickens is sometimes confused with ducks or guinea hens, which are not allowed on smaller lots.
The Agricultural Commission is looking into changing the permitting process and ordinances to make them more reasonable for residents in the city.
