GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Former police officer and Marine Corps veteran Maria Burge is now working with the Greenfield Police Department as a community liaison through the senior tax write-off program.

At last week’s Public Safety meeting, acting Police Chief Todd Dodge explained that a community liaison can help meet the needs of the community by connecting with people when a uniformed officer may be intimidating. Dodge also expressed interest in making this position permanent and expanding the Community Impact Unit with civilians.

Burge will be working through the Main Street substation to be readily available for residents downtown and has already started work with the department this month.
