GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Weather permitting, the Main Street water main improvement project will begin today in Greenfield. Improvements will take place over the next several months from Colrain Street to Chapman Street and project costs are estimated at $1.17 million, $250,000 of which is from a state grant. Traffic disruptions should be expected and detours will be put in place when necessary.

From the City of Greenfield:

On Monday, August 19 (weather permitting), the city will begin conducting a water main improvement project across Main Street. The project scope is from Colrain Street to Chapman Street on the north side of the street. The city anticipates the improvements to be completed in several months.

The City of Greenfield awarded the contract to Morais Concrete Service. As construction continues to progress through Main Street, the city will communicate any traffic disruptions through media alerts and social media. All detours will be clearly conveyed to motorists.

The project costs approximately $1.17 million, including $250,000 of funding from the Massachusetts Chapter 268 Earmark Grant.

“Similar to other communities, Greenfield’s water main infrastructure is aged and requires attentive oversight to ensure it operates effectively,” said Mayor Virginia “Ginny” Desorgher. “I want to thank the City of Greenfield DPW for prioritizing this work and maintaining a strong understanding of the city’s infrastructure needs.”
