SOUTH DEERFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — South Deerfield fire crews responded to an Eastern Avenue home Friday night when a structure fire was reported with heavy smoke in the attic. A first alarm was struck bringing in assistance from Deerfield, Sunderland, Greenfield, Bernardston, Whately, and South County EMS.
Arriving units found the smoke in the attic to be coming from a smoldering light fixture outside that had traveled into the attic. T
hanks to working smoke detectors, crews were able to extinguish the smoldering light before the situation could become more serious.
