WHATELY, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Whately Center School Committee is applying for grants and grant matching funds to complete renovations at the school, including roof replacement and window upgrades.

In the latest effort to bring new life into the former school, the Committee has applied for up to $600,000 in an Underutilized Properties Program that will require a 12% grant match from the town, which the Committee is applying for CPA, Community Preservation Act, funding to cover.

The renovations are part of the Committee’s plan to prepare the building for a non-municipal use. A previous community survey showed interest in using the space for housing, mixed-use, and even a grocery store.

The CPA request will be voted on at an October 22nd Special Town Meeting.
