BOSTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — On Monday, Governor Healey held a signing ceremony for a law criminalizing sexual assault by medical professionals and clergy members. The law will take effect in November and ensures the state can prosecute professionals who use the guise of their treatment or counseling to engage in sexual assault. Under the new law, perpetrators may face up to 20 years in state prison and allows victims to testify in parole hearings.
