GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Two officers from the Greenfield Police Department, Deputy Chief William Gordon and Officer Zoe Smith, have traveled down to Florida to assist with preparation, rescue and clean up efforts in Hurricane Helene.

In a statement from Police Chief Todd Dodge, he said ” These Officers have spent most of their lives running towards danger while sacrificing their own safety in order to help others.

We at the Greenfield Police Department will be waiting anxiously to hear from our brother and sister Officers after the hurricane has passed by and hope they stay safe while doing what they’ve always done.”

Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 storm and has since weakened to a Category 1 storm as it moves across Georgia.
