SHELBURNE, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The sustainability study for the Mohawk and Hawlemont School Districts is in the modeling phase with five potential options being examined in detail;
# 1 no changes or closures to the districts,
#2 the two districts merge,
#3 moving 6th grade to the Mohawk Trail Regional High School,
#4 moving 6th and possibly 5th grade to the Mohawk Trail Regional High School and closing one to three elementary schools,
and #5 a single campus with all grades at Mohawk Trail Regional High School.
No options have been singled out as favorable yet. The research team will be considering educational quality, sustainable finances long and short term, efficiency, feasibility, community experience, school identity, transportation, staffing, and facilities, among other factors.
A public information session on the model process will be held this Thursday, November 14th at 6:30 p.m. at Mohawk Trail Regional High School and via Zoom.
