BOSTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The drought status in Massachusetts has been upgraded to Level 3 – Critical Drought across the much of the state and officials say groundwater levels are rapidly falling in all regions.
Since August, when dry conditions began, all regions except the Cape and the Islands have seen an 8 to 11 inch rainfall deficit.
As firefighting efforts demand significant water resources with an unprecedented fall wildfire season this year, it’s recommended for residents to practice indoor water conservation to maintain sufficient supply and pressure in public water systems.
