GREAT BARRINGTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Butternut fire in Great Barrington, named so due to its proximity to Ski Butternut, has burned approximately 1,100 acres of land, up from the 100 acres reported on Tuesday.

The Franklin County Wildland Hand Crew deployed to aid in the fire fighting, and aerial water drops have been brought in by the Massachusetts National Guard.

Chief Fire Warden David Celino said the cause of the fire was most likely human and that it may take days to contain.
