CHARLEMONT, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A chimney caught fire in a residence on Legate Hill Road in Charlemont Friday afternoon.
Firefighters from Charlemont, Colrain, Shelburne Falls, Heath, Rowe, and Hawley responded to the scene just before 5 p.m. and extinguished the fire before it could cause major damage to the home.
Officials say the resident was treated for smoke inhalation however, she refused transport to the hospital. The fire was likely caused by the masonry heater used in the home and cautioned the public to clean their chimneys prior to using them for the heating season.
