DEERFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — UPDATE 9:45 a.m. Deerfield Police Chief John Paciorek has confirmed that four patients all with major trauma were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a two-car head on collision occurred earlier this morning on Routes 5&10 near the Whately town line.
According to Chief Paciorek, one of the patients is a 9 year-old boy and another patient was a passenger who is over seven months pregnant and is being evaluated for an emergency birth in Springfield.
The road was temporarily closed between 5:50 a.m. and 9:40 a.m., and is now reopened to the public.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, State Police Detective Unit, State Police Collision and Analysis Section (CARS), and our agency.
