GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Greenfield School Committee approved the posting of the Business Manager position for the Greenfield Public School district. The district currently contracts out the service, but the committee is looking to have a staff member full time in the district.

At Wednesday’s School Committee meeting they discussed the hiring environment with Margaret Driscoll from the Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials, who said making the position more attractive with potential partial remote work, as a more rural district than in the eastern part of the state, may help bring in qualified applicants.

Secretary Elizabeth Deneeve was appointed to the Superintendent’s search committee after discussion over how many and who should represent the School Committee in the search. Three committee members, Vice Chair Sexton, Secretary Deneeve, and Mayor Desorgher all expressed interest in being part of the process, however it was also expressed by multiple members that a quorum of the school committee joining the search committee would slow down the process as they would be subject to certain open meeting law requirements, such as meeting posting in appropriate timeframes.

The business manager position is set to begin July 1st with the new fiscal year as the current business manager contract will end on June 30th. There was also discussion around hiring sooner than July 1st so there may be overlap and a transition period, especially as July 1st is a time when school is out of session.
