BOSTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — During the former Governor Baker’s administration, an error was made in using federal pandemic relief funds for unemployment benefits.

Governor Healey has worked out a deal with the U.S. Department of Labor to pay back $2.1 billion over the next decade, over $1 billion less than the amount could have been with interest included. Massachusetts businesses will foot the bill, and may begin seeing increases in unemployment insurance beginning in 2026.
