BUCKLAND, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Mohawk and Hawlemont districts’ sustainability study has released their analysis of the five potential models for change; when looking at finances, enrollment, and student experience merging the districts or moving 6th grade to Mohawk would have low impacts, consolidating elementary schools or moving all students to Mohawk campus would have a moderate to significant impact.

If no changes were made to the current school district setups, property taxes would go up an average of $200 per year. If changes are made, such as closing one or more elementary schools to consolidate, the districts would need the support of the Massachusetts School Building Authority to fund renovations.

There will be public hybrid (in-person and virtual) meetings throughout February and March to discuss the study results.

Meeting dates/times are:

  • February 25, Buckland-Shelburne Elementary, 6:30-8 pm
