COLRAIN, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Since the closing of the Barnhardt Manufacturing facility in 2023, the Colrain Sewer District has been without a treatment plant and left to transport their waste to Montague.

The Colrain Selectboard and the Sewer District met with engineers from Wright-Pierce last week to hear the results of a review of the system, funded by a $500,000 Massachusetts Rural Development Grant. The grant also funds the transportation of the waste to the Montague facility.

It is estimated it will cost over $260,000 to make necessary repairs, and costs are expected to grow as a longterm plan is put in place. The good news is, the Wright-Pierce engineers believe the repairs are not an immediate emergency, and the priority concerns will cost a fraction of the overall estimate.
