GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Green Fields Market, Franklin Community Co-op, expansion project is coming to a fork in the road.
The expansion has been delayed due to a lease agreement with a current business in the building, leaving the Co-op to either work out an agreement with the business or to abandon the expansion project, as waiting the four and a half years until the lease expires would not be feasible, according to a statement from the Co-op to owner/members. The Co-op is hoping to find clarity on the issue within the next six weeks.
The co-op’s existing store is also facing financial hardships after underperforming sales in the second half of 2024, with the statement claiming the business has been losing $50,000 per month and staff layoffs have been implemented.
The Green Fields Market Annual Meeting will be held on March 2nd where member-owners will be able to hear and discuss more on the expansion and current state of business.
