GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Wednesday night the Greenfield Appointments and Ordinances Committee discussed the proposal to establish an Opioid Use and Prevention Commission that would direct how the opioid settlement funds are used over the next eighteen years of dispersals.

The Commission would have seven members representing both the city and those directly impacted by the opioid crisis. A stipend was discussed, which would be paid through from the abatement funds as would all of the committee’s expenses. The proposed stipend for Commission members, who are not city employees, would be $3,000.

The ad hoc committee who worked to put together the proposal to form the Opioid Use and Prevention Commission, is hoping to establish a precedence that would help set an example for communities across the state to set up similar Commission to direct the settlement funds.

The proposal is expected to come to full City Council in April.
