BOSTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Governor Healey has implemented new strategies to enhance safety at state family shelter sites and lower the cost of shelters to taxpayers. All adults applying for emergency assistance will now have to undergo a CORI check and will be denied assistance if they do not consent to the CORI or if they have been convicted of a serious crime.

Additionally, the shelter system capacity has been reduced to align with the Governor’s supplemental budget and according to the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, “the number of hotel shelters has already been reduced by half and currently 75 percent of families seeking shelter are long-time Massachusetts families.”
