GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Greenfield’s FY26 Capital Budget was passed at Wednesday’s City Council meeting. Distinct from the operating budget, the capital budget funds major, long-term investments.

This year, fifteen orders were included in the budget totaling $2.6 million, $700,000 of which will be bonded for projects in the Department of Public Works.

The Capital Projects include:

  • $16,000 for the purchase of a fully electric vehicle for use by the Department of Public Works for meter reading.
  • $300,000 for the purchase of three (3) fully equipped police patrol vehicles.
  • $200,000 for road work and repairs.
  • $250,000 for the purchase of a bucket lift truck.
  • $150,000 for the purchase of a one ton truck.
  • $90,000 for the purchase of a Department of Public Works ¾ ton highway truck.
  • $34,000 for the design and engineering services for repair of Maplebrook Culvert at 34 Riddell Street.
  • $35,000 for the design, engineering and permitting services for repair of Colrain Street Bridge.
  • $300,000 for the repair and installation of fire a alarm panel for the Middle School.
  • $35,000 for the repair of Davis Street Tennis Courts.
  • $35,000 to inspect Adam’s Hill Water Storage Tanks. 
  • $80.000 to purchase pickup truck for Department of Public Works.
  • Department of Public Works Water Enterprise to bond for $500,000 for engineering and design services related to dredging Green River water supply intake.
  • Department of Public Works Sewer Enterprise to bond for $200,000 for Inflow and Infiltration (INI) repairs and replacement. 

The city’s FY26 operating budget will come before Council in May.
