LEVERETT, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The town of Leverett is proposing a $7.99 million budget for FY26, representing a 6.1% increase over the current fiscal year’s $7.53 million budget.  

The Education portion of the budget is responsible for 77% of the overall increase, or $352,317 of the $458,396 overall increase. The elementary school budget is increasing by 4.1% while the regional school budget is increasing by 13.6%. 

Some other changes in the coming fiscal year’s budget include:

  • Deputy chief and Lieutenants will be paid hourly rather than as a stipend and the number of Lieutenants is changing from three to two. 

•⁃Childcare will now be provided for the town meeting, a trending change in the region to promote participation.
