(Boston, MA) –Relief could soon be on the way for small city and town governments struggling with logistical issues during the COVID 19 pandemic. Franklin-Hampshire State Senator Jo Comeford has co-sponsored a “municipal relief bill” which is expected to help towns address a number of concerns.
“How in the heck do people hold town meetings, or elections, in a pandemic,” Comerford said. “There are a number of problems this pandemic has created for communities and we wanted to try to find ways to help provide options that allow them to do what they need to for their citizens.”
Nearly every community in Franklin County has been forced to alter and/or reschedule plans for town meetings and municipal elections because of the pandemic. The bill is currently under review in the Senate Ways and Means Committee and is expected to come up for a vote in the House sometime next week.
