GARDNER, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Gardner Firefighters put out a second alarm structure fire at 37 Greenwood Street Friday night.

Burning electrical odors were reported and once on scene crews found an active fire in the cockloft of the building, a dangerous and difficult void space to fight a fire between the top floor’s ceiling and the roof of a building.

Quick work by the department extinguished the fire before it could spread to the residence.

Athol, Rutland and Fitchburg Fire Departments provided station coverage while crews from Westminster, Asburnham, Winchendon, and Hubbardston were providing on-scene support.
