GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Greenfield Community Relations Committee met Monday evening to discuss the potential formation of a noise ordinance for Greenfield after several noise issues such as roosters, chronic business noises, event noise from the fairgrounds, and more have been raised by residents recently.
Councilors on the Committee suggested forming a draft ordinance to bring to the Appointments and Ordinances Committee to move the issue forward. At this time, it was unclear what the ordinance may entail including enforcement and measurement of noise.
The Committee also spoke with Mayor Desorgher about the 30 properties the city would like to see improved, and now departments are coming together to share information and resources on how to address each property’s unique challenges.
Mayor Desorgher said that Building Inspector Mark Snow had recently asked the Mayor to reconvene a meeting of departments, including Health, Building, Planning, and Public Safety, that last came together approximately eight years ago to discuss declining properties.
The properties are spread throughout the city, although the Mayor did say there were more in Precincts 7 and 5, and a mix of city and privately-owned properties, each with unique needs and challenges.
