WESTFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Town of Westfield is one of the key municipal drivers behind a recently expanded deal with FirstLight, an energy company operating out of Turners Falls and Northfield.

Westfield Gas and Electric has locked in cost-competitive hydropower coming out of the Cabot and Turners Falls stations along the Connecticut River.

From FirstLight:

Why this matters for Westfield residents:

  • Price Certainty: This agreement secures a steady flow of clean power through 2040, helping WG+E maintain its reputation for lower rates compared to the state’s larger investor-owned utilities.
  • Beating the Mandate: Westfield and its partners are already hitting the state’s 2030 carbon-free goals four years early, proving that “going green” doesn’t have to mean “going expensive.”
  • Regional Power: Unlike energy bought from distant national grids, this power is generated just up the road in Montague, supporting local union jobs and Western Mass infrastructure.
