NORTHAMPTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, several local emergency responders arrived at 209 Locust Street in Northampton for a reported structure fire, including South Deerfield fire and South County EMS.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Northampton Public Safety and the Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Structure Fire – 209 Locust Street
Northampton, MA — At 12:51 p.m. today, Northampton Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 209 Locust Street.
The initial response included three engine companies, one ladder company, and a chief officer. Upon arrival, the Incident Commander observed smoke showing from the front of a building located to the rear of 209 Locust Street. Firefighters made entry into the structure and encountered heavy smoke conditions and high heat.
Based on these conditions, the Incident Commander declared a working fire, prompting the response of Easthampton Fire, Hadley Fire, South Deerfield Fire, for mutual aid assistance. Pioneer Valley EMS provided Advanced Life Support (ALS) coverage on scene.
To maintain citywide coverage, Hatfield Fire, Williamsburg Fire, and South County EMS, and recalled off-duty Northampton Fire Rescue personnel provided station coverage for Northampton during the incident.
The Northampton Police Department assisted with crowd and traffic control, as well as providing on-scene support to firefighters operating at the incident.
On-scene operations were supplemented by the current recruit class of 9 new firefighters that will soon be assigned to shift.
The fire is currently under investigation by Northampton Fire Rescue, the Northampton Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
