AMHERST, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — UMass Amherst was awarded a grant to improve bird safety on campus.

The $173,404 in funding comes from the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game’s Community Biodiversity Grant Program and will be used to install bird-friendly window coverings designed by a local artist. The coverings will go on what has been deemed the six most dangerous buildings on campus for birds.

This project also includes expanded monitoring of other high collision sites on campus, along with outreach and education for the community.
