BELCHERTOWN, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A hearing was held Wednesday on the proposal to draw an additional 20 million gallons of water a day from the Quabbin Reservoir and was highly attended by local residents and state officials in opposition to the plan. Currently, about 200 million gallons a day are withdrawn for eastern and central Mass communities, but legislators argued that the proposal violates the 1984 law governing the water transfer. Public comment remains open until October 7th.
