(Holyoke, MA) Today, Governor Charlie Baker has called out the conduct and lack of care at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home that lead to a catastrophic loss of life for the Country’s vulnerable heroes. Mark Perlstein, a former federal prosecutor conducted a full investigation on what had occurred. The investigation was conducted without charge. Baker said the report is hard to read and gut wrenching.
“The report shows that Bennet Walsh was unable to fulfill the roll of superintendent,” said Baker.
Multiple errors in judgement were revealed in the report that subjected resident to exposure of COVID-19.
“These mistakes needlessly exposed innocent veterans to grave risk,” said Baker.
Baker called out an abject failure of leadership in the home, poor oversite, and failed management at the home as creating the tragic failure that exposed the veterans to the virus.
