Online Push To Rename Turners Falls “Great Falls”

(Turners Falls, MA) — There is a movement underway to change the name of the village of Turners Falls. A citizens petition has been posted on-line advocating changing the name from Turners Falls to Great Falls. The village is currently named for Captain William Turner, who led a 1676 raid on the area which killed several hundred Native Americans. Some feel it’s inappropriate for the village to continue to bear Turner’s name.
