(Greenfield, MA) Some Greenfield residents have noticed an uptick in parking enforcement in the City of Greenfield. Police Chief Robert Haigh said the one full time and one part time Parking Enforcement Officers have not been vigorously ticketing, but they are doing their jobs.

“When people don’t pay their meter or for spaces in the lot they are in violation,” said Haigh.

Haigh pointed out that parking is a revenue source for the city that is used to pay for the parking garage.

“If folks don’t want to pay a bigger fine, then they need to pay to park,” said Haigh.

Haigh did say that the department has not done anything with ticketing since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, which could explain why now there may appear to be an uptick.
