(Boston, MA) US Senate Incumbent Ed Markey has come out against Qualified Immunity. In a recent social media post Markey spoke out against qualified immunity in the United States.

“Massachusetts has the chance to help lead the nation on qualified immunity. State legislation must include language that puts us on the path to end this tool of oppression,” said Markey in the post.

Markey has partnered with Congresswoman Ayana Pressley and Senator Elizabeth Warren to create legislation to end qualified immunity, which he refers to as an injustice that prevents true accountability in the nation’s police forces.

“I urge the State to join us in helping to end qualified immunity. There cannot be true police accountability or racial justice until this is done,” said Markey.

Markey spoke out further regarding the way he thinks qualified immunity plays out in America.

“We will not change the culture of violence against Black and Brown Americans until we stand up and hold accountable the police officers who abuse their positions of trust and responsibility,” said Markey.

Markey is being challenged by Joe Kennedy in the democratic primary for the United States Senate, which will take place September 1. Kennedy has also come out in favor of ending qualified immunity in the United States.
