(Greenfield, MA) — The president of Greenfield’s city council says the city has so far only committed to building a new fire station, not a public safety complex. President Ashli Stempel-Rae says the $10 million approved last year by the council was only for a new fire station, not a more expensive public safety complex as indicated by the mayor’s office during the recent announcement that the former Carr Hardware property as a possible site for that new facility. Stempel-Rae said in a post on social media Wednesday that it is important for the city to be as “transparent as possible” on plans for the new fire station, particularly when it comes to funding questions.
