(Orange, MA) — Residents in the town of Orange have defeated a Proposition 2 ½ override by a mere seven votes. The extra money would have gone to fund the town’s portion of the assessment for Mahar Regional School. The vote was 367 to 360 against the measure, which would have funded the increased assessment by just over $399-thousand dollars approved at annual town meeting in June. Just 14 percent of Orange voters cast ballots in yesterday’s special election.
