(Greenfield, MA) The Greenfield Fire Department was called to Colrain Street on Friday for a vehicle fire in a 1994 Jaguar Sedan. A representative of the Greenfield Fire Department, Firefighter Alex Cooley said the car was smoking upon arrival and that individuals on the scene had attempted to put out the fire before the fire department arrived. The department used water to overhaul the fire until all the hot spots were extinguished and no longer smoldering.

Cooley said that car fires are especially dangerous given the materials in a motor vehicle. He said the best thing to do is to get out of the vehicle quickly and move to safety, then call the fire department who has the tools to deal with this kind of fire. In this case, there were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation, but is believed to be some sort of mechanical failure.
