(Greenfield, MA) An oven fire at the Berkshire Apartments in Greenfield on Wednesday caused a large amount of smoke, said Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan. The smoke filled the hallways of the apartment building, which was evacuated for about 45 minutes to allow firefighters to extinguish the fire and ventilate the building. No major damage was reported to the building but one resident was transported to the hospital for a medical condition caused by the smoke. The call came in just after 3pm and the fire department was on scene for about an hour.
