(Deerfield, MA) The Deerfield Police Department is coming forward with information regarding the car break-ins in the area. While the suspects are not known at this time, the Deerfield Police Department has reason to believe the area thefts are connected to Hartford, CT. According to a recent social media post, the department said that communities within an hour of Hartford have had vehicle break-ins that are believed to be connected to Hartford street gangs. The modus operandi for these gangs is opportunism. According to the Deerfield Police Department, they rarely force open a door or break a window to gain entry to the vehicle. Additionally, they move quickly and quietly in groups.

Deerfield Police are looking at past criminal behavior to try to get a lead in these car thefts. The department said that last year a car stolen from Deerfield  was located in the Hartford area. Additionally, items from car break-ins last year were also located in Hartford. Deerfield Police Officer Timothy Boland did observe a vehicle with CT license plates traveling in Deerfield early this morning. While the vehicle was not stopped, he did note that the registered owner of the car had a criminal background.

Suspects for the car break-ins in the area have not been identified and more information has not yet been released.
