Greenfield Passes Community Preservation Act, Taxes To Go Up One Percent

(Greenfield, MA) Greenfield voters have passed the Community Preservation Act which will establish a fund to build and maintain parks, preserve historic landmarks, and build affordable housing. The passage of the act means homeowners who may already be stretched will see a one percent increase on their taxes. The Community Preservation Act is a Massachusetts state law. Cities and towns can adopt the act by imposing a surcharge. The state will match a certain percentage for every dollar put into the fund through the surcharge.
