(Greenfield, MA) Greenfield voters have passed the Community Preservation Act which will establish a fund to build and maintain parks, preserve historic landmarks, and build affordable housing. The passage of the act means homeowners who may already be stretched will see a one percent increase on their taxes. The Community Preservation Act is a Massachusetts state law. Cities and towns can adopt the act by imposing a surcharge. The state will match a certain percentage for every dollar put into the fund through the surcharge. There are currently 177 Community Preservation Act cities and towns in Massachusetts. To learn more about the state wide Community Preservation Act, click here.
