(Deerfield, MA) A 31 year old man is in custody today after a chase down 91s ended in a foot pursuit. According to the Massachusetts State Police, Emmanuel Castro was allegedly observed by a Massachusetts State Trooper traveling down 91S in a black Honda Accord in the Greenfield area after fleeing from Montague police earlier in the morning. He was believed to have been involved in a subsequent crash. Castro is accused of fleeing from State Police at a high rate of speed. Deerfield police set up stop sticks north of Exit 23, but Castro allegedly swerved and missed the sticks. When the vehicle struck a guardrail at Exit 23, the suspect allegedly fled on foot. Deerfield Police were able to take him into custody within a minute and turned him over to State police. Castro is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police, speeding, marked lanes violation, operating after license revocation, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
