(Greenfield, MA) — The city of Greenfield has lost one of its top historical voices. Historian Peter Miller passed away Sunday afternoon at the age of 82 after a period of failing health.
“We had different political views, but we came to be friends,” Greenfield Mayor Roxann Wedegartber said. “I always liked him. A Greenfield treasure for sure, our “official” historian.”
“He was a great guy and a tireless promoter of Greenfield’s rich history,” former Recorder editor and fellow Greenfield Historical Commission member Tim Blagg wrote on a social media post announcing Miller’s death. “He will be missed.”
Miller had argued tirelessly over the years on behalf of historical preservation efforts, and had an extensive photographic collection which featured Greenfield’s historic theaters and structures. He had recently been reappointed to the historical commission to a term which was to have expired in December 2022.
