(Greenfield, MA) — Winter sports at Greenfield High School begins next week.
The Greenfield School Committee has approved Athletic Director Mike Kuchieski’s plan to begin ice hockey and basketball practices next week, with hockey’s first workout on Monday and basketball Tuesday. Massachusetts schools were cleared to begin practicing this week, but Kuchieski said it made sense to bump it back a week.
“We felt it was in the best interests of everyone to wait the extra week,” Kuchieski said, adding that the decision was the product of a number of meetings between school and city health officials.
Kuchieski said both hockey and basketball are set to have their first games the week of January 26th, but how or even whether those contests can be held will be largely dependent on the latest COVID data, and the city’s board of health, which meets Thursday afternoon January 14th to discuss the matter further.
